I try to stay away from what the 'real' critics have to say about television shows that I watch. There are some great writers out there but I'm not sure there are many "great" critics. What one takes from a show such as Sons of Anarchy which as the lead actress says, is "a great family drama," is highly personalized due to our perceptions about our own families, what we think families should be vs. what we think they shouldn't. So then, there are countless ways to perceive the show and that's before you step into all the Shakespearean mythology that 'Sons' is steeped in.

I agree with Katey Sagal that Sons Of Anarchy's great strength is in it's core family dynamic. In season 3 which with 'Turas' we are two-thirds three-quarters(!) through, that dynamic has been shattered by Jackson 'Jax' Teller's infant son Abel being (remaining) kidnapped and taken to Belfast as well as motorcycle matriarch (doesn't that sound cool? I stole it from a critic) Gemma being on the lam and now by Tara, Tig, Piney, Kozik and the new prospects, Chief Unser and the town of Charming (which I'd argue, is itself a character in this family) left behind stateside whilst the boys (plus Gemma, still on the lam) continue to chase their tails in search of Abel.

One thing that drives me bonkers in a show that I like as much as I do SOA is predictability. I hate that my prediction for example, that showrunner Kurt Sutter & Co. would stretch out the Abel kidnapping for most of the season–I mean really stretch–I hate that I was right.

I don't view the show until the average person does so I have NO idea what the ending of Sons of Anarchy's season 3 will bring. However my end-of-season 2 guess was that baby Abel will be found about the second-to-last episode of the third season. (Gawd, I hope it isn't in the very special 90-minute season 3 finale.) I just hate how much the kid is being used as a plot device ostensibly to further examine the dynamics of many relationships between individuals and groups/sub groups affiliated or with the the Sons of Anarchy but all the foot dragging is a total drag on what can be a fantastic show. And yeah, the family seems to care about the kid (dancing, drinking and drunken bare-knuckle fights in the alley notwithstanding). But we the audience don't really know Abel from Adam, and so I can't really muster up the empathy that normally such an overt tug at my heartstrings would.
